These are messages between myself and Muscogee County Sheriff (MCSO) Greg Countryman on May 15, 2025 when the 118-page investigation into the City of Columbus/Muscogee County was released to the public.
As you can see, Countryman said the report was not related to the city’s finances.
He also said it’s up to Mayor Skip Henderson to make the arrests happen, as he is the “CEO.”
So, now Skip is the head of a corporation? I thought he was the chief public safety officer. Since when did the city charter state that charges and arrests of city employees is up to the mayor, when it actually states it is up to the COUNCIL?
Let’s get this straight: 17 months of manpower (from MCSO) off of the crime-ridden streets (at least 4 investigators with the MCSO), nearly a million dollars worth of taxpayer money… ending in two misdemeanors with, according to Investigator Hattaway, little to most likely NO jail time for the two women questioned: Yvonne Ivey (former revenue manager- fired) and Angelica Alexander (current finance director).
CONFUSION AND BLAME PLACING: Countryman says it’s all up to the CEO (Mayor Skip Henderson), ADA Wayne Jernigan is MIA in a different county and Mayor Skip/council members refuse to answer any questions related to this.
Do they expect us to simply forget about this so that it will just POOF ✨ go away like so many other shady deals?
Now disgraced Former City Manager Isaiah Hugley is running for the power of mayor – Chief Public Safety Officer. Additionally, Columbus Police Chief Stoney Mathis mentioned, earlier this year, his plans to step down next year.
So let’s get this straight: A man (Isaiah Hugley) who has proven that he CANNOT manage the city’s finances or its employees, can now suddenly manage the city’s crime?
And even more, Greg Countryman has not been able to reduce the crime from the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office, but we are all supposed to believe he and his frat brother will be able to partner together and reduce the crime in Columbus?
How does this make you all feel? Is this leadership? Is this transparency concerning our money, time, resources and legal accountability?
